Tortoreto: a pearl of the Abruzzo coast

You will never be bored in Tortoreto!

In addition to the beach and trips into the countryside there is a full summer programme of things to do in and around the town including markets, exhibitions, concerts and festivals.

The high points on the calendar include the firework display held on August 15th (Ferragosto) to celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Sea Pilgrimage of the Madonna, an annual service of dedication attended by thousands on the beach.

There are three specific areas within the historical centre of Tortoreto, namely Terravecchia, Terranova and the Borgo. Terravecchia is the oldest and highest quarter of the town where you will find the Castle, the Clock Tower, the Augustine Monastery and St. Augustine's Church (formerly the Church of St. Eufemia).

The Borgo is the most modern part of the historic centre, dating from about 1400 and includes the church of the Madonna del Carmine which is dedicated to "St. Rocco without the Walls".
